Static site with wordpress in subdirectory

What would be the best way to setup a static site in the root and a wordpress site in the /blog/ subdirectory. Should I just use easy engine to create a basic site with mysql and configure wordpress manually. Or is there a way to use easy engine to setup wordpress in a subdirectory. I’ve looked through all the docs and can’t quite figure it out. Thanks for the help.
