I have all my settings enabled to allow users to upload media from the activity feed but the option to upload anything is not there. Am I missing something? All a user can do is post a comment, nothing more than that. I have tried disabling other plugins but still no luck.

I hope you have enabled the Allow upload from activity stream admin settings of rtMedia to allow users to upload media on BuddyPress activity.
Also, please share the debug info with us. You can find it under rtMedia -> Settings -> Support -> Debug info tab.
