I'd like to impose a limit to each user for how many images they can have on their profile both for space/bandwidth/security optimisation as well as providing a framework for styling the page to ensure it always displays well.
Is this possible inside of BuddyPress media?

I'd be willing to make a contribution for the feature. I'd also like to see the ability for users to change the order of their album photos.
Currently, we are focussing on refactoring the code, so that the plugin becomes more flexible and robust. That should, in all, take a month or two. Once done with it, such features would take us just a few hours to add.
So, you'd have to wait until the current roadmap is completed.
