Is it possible to tie into the buddypress notification system so that Users are notified when new media has been uploaded to an album?
If your asking for an email notification when a “friend” uploads new media, I’d strongly support that feature too! That’d be a nice addition.

Very nice idea, but global notification for members isn’t good.I’ll go with Ben suggestion either by follow or friend. I believe the friend part is dying and I only use follow plugin for buddypress. https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-followers/ As I disabled friend as follow works much better. So yes, go for it.
