Cant connect to remote MySQL via EE

To whom it may concern,

I seem to have encountered a bug in EE. I have configured the host and credentials required for remote MySQL connectivity. I have confirmed that the credentials are correct via the MySQL command (prompt is displayed )

When I try to create a WP site via EE, I encounter an issue where the script tries to connect to MySQL without using a password. Since password authentication should be used (and works fine via ping utility) how can I force the script to use password authentication, please

have you set databases credentials and hosts in /etc/mysql/conf.d/my.cnf ?
