Aspect ration and thumbnail

Hi,

I have rtmedia up and running in my buddypress installation. I can upload photos and videos to the site. Photos are working fine.

Videos have a few issues. I am currently using the rtmedia encoding service (free version for now but will upgrade when working)

1.Whatever aspect ratio the video is uploaded as (I have tried 1920 x 1080 and 640 x 480). The encoded video in 320x240 aspect. Video from iPhones and alike are mostly in the 1920 x 1080 ratio, so the video comes back squashed. Is there a way of changing this?

  1. The videos don’t have any thumbnails. Is it possible to encode them with thumbnails?

  2. The uploader doesn’t currently work on an iPhone but I think that is a known issue?

You can have a look at the video uploads here

Cheers!

Hi,
We have defaulted the video to 320×240. If you upload an mp4 file that should not go for conversion and should get uploaded as it is. But for any other filetype it is sent for conversion. We would be considering checking this out and it would depend on the number of people supporting this requirement.

Video thumbnails are in the pipeline but it is still on a low priority. iPhone issue is known to us and we are working on that too.

Could you create separate topics specifying the feature you want and mark them as Feature Request. We will then let the users vote on these features.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Hmm that’s definitely a bit of an issue. I think most video from the users on my site will be uploading video recorded on smartphones which is likely now going to be 16:9 and not 4:3 … What service can I use to get round this?

I’ll start new topics, requesting features now.

Thanks

As of now we don’t have any service that could do this but you could subscribe to the rtMedia newsletter so that you get updates regarding rtMedia.
