404 page returns an Apache response "200"

How can I configure the 404.php file to return an Apache “404” error code? It returns a 200 for any pages that aren’t there, and I’d rather have Google, et al., drop pages from their index that are no longer around.

Hi Varnum,

Sorry for delayed reply. We do not use Apache so no idea about your issue.

Rest assured it is not related to theme as I tested theme on few sites and for non-existent pages, it is returning correct HTTP 404 Status in response.
